SITE UPDATE
Cool as... has recently had it's 5,000th visitor. After a lot of work, the new experimental site tentatively titled; Heaven and Hell is almost ready to go live. I'll have one final blitz on it this weekend and put it online next week.

I have finally got round to buying myself a digital camera, which should make adding pictures to my Travel site a lot easier. No more scanning, although I still have several hundred pictures to add from previous travels.

I have a few trips planned for next year which will give me plenty of opportunities to see what the camera can do. I'll put the results on my Travel site. After a bit of research I finally settled on a 5.1 megapixel HP Photosmart R707, which did well in all the reviews I've read and is under £200. If you are interested:

ONE YEAR ON
It is now exactly a year since I arrived back from my round the world trip. After the first couple of months of crushing reality I managed to settle back into a routine. If the high is going to be worthwhile the inevitable comedown is bound to be bad. It makes me appreciate what I had. I'm not going to get maudlin and yearn for the past though because; 'I do believe if you don't like things you leave, for some place you've never been before'. To quote Lou Reed.

About a quarter of my travel pics are now online, more to follow. Work on my new personal site continues apace, I still have plenty to do though. Check this space for more details.

SITE UPDATE
There are now over 300* photographs featured in my Travel site. Cool as... has now had over 4,000** visitors. I'm still working on the new experimental site in between real work and having a life. It may appear early next month. Who knows, who cares and who'll remember anyway?

*372 to be exact, not that you really care.
**4,275 but whose counting.

V FESTIVAL
It was a few weeks ago now (August 21-22) but I've only just got round to writing an update to the news section. V Festival had one of the best line ups of any festival this year despite only being two days long. Of course it is also one of the most commercial of the festivals which equates to egregious dross like Dido and Pink being allocated slots on the main stage. One word; Wrong.

After a full English Breakfast of Bacon, Sausage, Beans and 2 tins of Beer we (Pete, Adam, Nik and Myself) made our way to the Festival grounds. Unfortunately we were not allowed to take our own booze on site, as this would mean that they would not be able to get away with selling us watered down piss at vastly inflated prices. Although we did manage to smuggle in a bottle of Vodka and few tins of beer each. After queuing to get in we then queued to buy beer tokens, at aforementioned vastly inflated prices. £3.00 for a pint of piss, what is the world coming to.

The real reason I was there was the music and it was good, very good in some cases. Athlete, were fair to middling if a little uninspiring. The Freestylers were very good and gave the pace a much needed jolt. Then it was over to the main stage for Faithless, not my cup of tea but my mates seem to like them. The Charlatans put on another sterling performance, interspersing some truly classic tracks, of which they have many, with a few gems from the new album. Then it was over to the second stage to catch some of Elbow and Embrace, who were filling in for Jet. Elbow have produced two classic albums but the sound system did there music no justice and the whole gig sounded rather flat. It was good to see that Embrace are back on form after disappearing for a few years, hopefully the new album will live up to expectations. Saturday was brought to a spectacular conclusion by Muse, who create a truly epic, earth shattering sound.

Sundays line up was even better, the first band of note were Snow Patrol. Playing some soon to be classic tracks from their latest album. Badly Drawn Boy was as good as ever even though the majority of the crowd made a sharp exit after Snow Patrol. The Thrills, proved to be a pleasant distraction on a laid back afternoon. The Band of the weekend (Year, Century, Millennium even) were, of course, the Pixies. An hour long adrenaline rush. Their sound was unleashed like shrapnel. Frank Black screamed through the set like an escaped mental patient whilst Kim Deal provided the perfect foil with her voice sounding like the archetypal fallen angel. Joey Santiago let loose an avalanche of visceral guitar whilst Dave Lovering laid down the drums. I made it to the front of the stage and jumped around like a maniac for the entire set. Fantastic. The Strokes acknowledged that they had a hard act to follow, and got down to business, with one foot in the past and another in a scuffed Converse All Star sneaker. You can forgive the sunglasses at night, because The Strokes are Cool and more importantly they know how to rock.

HOLIDAY
After V I headed down to Croyde Bay in Devon for a week of surfing, and drinking. The surf wasn't amazing the weather was overcast and the beaches were over crowded. I had a great time. No, really I did. I managed to surf every day and it all came back to me. I had a night out with a couple of mates in the Marines who know how to put away the booze. The first bar we went to was doing a buy one get one free drinks offer, I don't remember much more...

SITE UPDATE

I've just added a load of pictures to the Travel site, in the Northern Territory, Australia section. I found a CD my friend Nik cut for me of the pictures he took whilst we were travelling together, so I have plundered it and added a few pictures of my own that I scanned this week.

SITE UPDATE
I have added some more pictures to my Travel site, in the Home section. I have scanned a whole load more which should be up by the end of the week. I have started work on a new site which will showcase some of my experimental and non commercial work, it should be appearing early next month.

HOLIDAY
Next week I'm taking a much needed holiday, my first since I got back from my Travels in October (unless you count a weekend in Amsterdam and a few days off for Glastonbury Festival).

A mate was ment to be getting free tickets for the V Festival this weekend but unfortunately it fell through at the last minute. I couldn't miss out on the chance to see the all time gretest band of all time (Pixies) once more, after they blew me away in June. Thanks to some frantic bidding on ebay I am now sorted. Now I just need to invent a cloning machine so that I can watch Pixies, Massive Attack and Primal Scream who will all be playing at the same time. Unfortunately I was outbid on one on ebay yesterday so it looks like I can only be in one place at a time. Probably a good thing, I'm not sure if the world is ready for three of me just yet.

After V Festival I'm heading down to Croyde Bay in Devon for a week of surfing, and I can hardly wait. It has been far to long since I last hit the waves.

SITE UPDATE
Cool as has just had it's 2,700th unique visitor, with over 1,700 different people checking it out in July alone. Thanks for the interest, I'll endevor to keep it fresh.

I have recently added some more images to the Travel site. You will find some new pictures in the Illustration section. I have also included some photos from my trip to New York way back in 1996. A lot has changed since then, to put it mildly.
